I FOUND YOU

Kelbris, also known as The Father, was the leader of the Moon Children and a prophet to the modern members due to his claims of being contacted by Luna, the subject of the Moon Children's worship. His interpretation of the end of the world and subsequent mysterious death made him a legendary figure within the cult. During the Moon Children Arc, he was discovered to have possibly ascended.

It is revealed through video titles and image file names released during the Awakening Arc that Kelbris and The Father, previously thought to be separate entities, are indeed one and the same.

History

1998

Kelbris founded the Moon Children cult as a front for the "Eternity Project". According to an explanatory passage attached to the of Moon Children's end-times prophecies on youshouldnthavedonethat.net, Kelbris was the first Moonchild who received whispers from the cult's deity, Luna. Kelbris related to the cult that the whispers detailed Luna's future consumption of the Earth. Her messages were distorted and sometimes contained the number 3 said between words, and sometimes between letters. Some time afterward, Kelbris was found electrocuted, and whether intending to or not, had successfully ascended. Eventually, he was deified as The Father, and the cult's later dealings were built on the foundations of Kelbris' prophecies.

The snippets that could be gleaned from the original Moon Children website stated the cult was ultimately unsure if Kelbris had actually ascended or if he had simply died — however, with the apparently updated Eternity Project account of the events, it's clarified that the uncertainty lied in whether or not Kelbris had intended to ascend.

Haunted Cartridge Arc

Several brief mentions of The Father are made by Rosa in Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines - Rosa:

  • "Why is he smiling? The father? Is it- Is it the father behind him?"
  • "He's furious... the man with the crest... the voice in the darkness, boss."
  • "Some [enemies] with swords, some with smiles."

The first of these mentions would be recalled in a later video.

The Father made no overt physical appearances throughout Jadusable's videos, but he is referenced by the appearance of the Happy Mask Salesman, a connection that would be made later. In day four.wmv, he is briefly shown during the Swordsman's School sequence. At 4:23, the Happy Mask Salesman dialogue, "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" appeared.

The Happy Mask Salesman is more prominently featured in BEN.wmv. After entering the Clock Tower, the beginning of his introductory cut scene is played before Jadusable is taken to Termina Field, where a reversed and slowed down Happy Mask Salesman Theme plays. In the field, the Happy Mask Salesman is among the character models present, though his idle animation does not play; however, his head follows Link as he moves. Immediately after Jadusable played the Song of Healing, he was killed. Afterward, his laugh played, accompanied by "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"

DROWNED.wmv contains a sequence in which Jadusable is transported from area to area in Ocarina of Time. He ends up in the Happy Mask Shop, which, oddly, did not contain the Happy Mask Salesman. When Link focuses on the Elegy statue inside the Moon, the Happy Mask Salesman, with an angry expression and outstretched hand, is shown briefly with the sound of Kotake's scream. His laugh plays afterward, when the phrase "Come play with us" appears.

In jadusable.wmv, a picture of the Happy Mask Salesman standing next to the Elegy of Emptiness statue is found in the Pictograph Box, which Jadusable promptly disposes of. After he is killed during the fight with Gomess, the following phrase appears: "Why is he smiling? The father?" This references the words of Rosa from Jadusable's first video. Later, he falls into a grave, which is followed by the Happy Mask Salesman's laugh and the phrase, "It'll be our little secret, okay?" Finally, after Jadusable makes his way into the Clock Tower, the screen cuts to black with the text, "You can't run." This is followed by an extended shot of Link, the Elegy statue, and the Happy Mask Salesman standing together, cutting out shortly before the next Elegy statue spawns on top of Link.

The Father is briefly mentioned in TheTruth.rtf in the form of the Happy Mask Salesman, who appears in a nightmare that Jadusable has. As the in-game Moon Children sewed his hands to his sides and rendered him unable to scream, the Happy Mask Salesman leaned down toward him and said, "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"

Moon Children Arc

The Father is referenced in the Moon Children Creed by the line, "O father, I pledge to youa [sic]." Later, File 6 of the downloadable files was revealed to be an image of the Happy Mask Salesman, titled, "the father.jpg."

Kelbris' presence on youshouldnthavedonethat.net was first detected on the contact page for DROWNED, which contained Kelbris.jpg and the text, "Dead End. Go back," as well as a cipher in the title that translated to, "MY EYES... THEY TOOK... MY EYES..." The Search page also contained a possible message from Kelbris, "Do you honestly think you can escape me?"

During the Second Cycle, the Song of Healing was played, which triggered a message from Kelbris on the main page. The username read, "WHO DO YOU THINK THIS IS," and the post read, "I AM KNOCKING AT YOUR DOOR NEXT. LET ME IN. I WANT TO SPEAK." The post was made at 6:66pm (realistically, 7:06pm). Rosa's disappearance soon afterward is attributed to this action, and Kelbris is believed to be responsible for Ifrit's as well.

An account belonging to Kelbris was found in the Tenor group on Within Hubris. When Wayward Horizon was unlocked by users, a topic from him titled "..." was found. It consisted only of "GET OUT."

Awakening Arc

The Father is shown in-game in end.wmv for the first time since the Haunted Cartridge Arc, in which the Happy Mask Salesman cutscene plays out mostly-normally. In gateway.wmv, sonata.wmv, and CHILDREN.wmv, he appears in the same role as the Happy Mask Salesman in Termina Field. Later in CHILDREN.wmv, Link targets a previously unseen character model (later identified as Ifrit) as the Happy Mask Salesman's laugh plays.

THE FATHER.wmv, the final video recorded by Jadusable, reveals that The Father was within the cartridge alongside BEN the whole time. The title of the video was originally KELBRIS.wmv, which changed several times before settling on its final name; this along with images found the same night on methodsofrevolution.com provide confirmation that Kelbris and The Father are the same entity. In the video, Jadusable pushes farther into the game against BEN's warnings. BEN begins to beg Jadusable to stop exploring and tells him, "You're going to wake him up," followed by, "YOU ARE DIGGING TOO DEEP. TURN BACK NOW." Jadusable ignores BEN's pleas and even deletes save files named STOP and PLEASE. After the final reset, The Father is awakened. Now in control, he tells Jadsuable, "I FOUND YOU." As Jadusable walks through the void, The Father appears and devours Link, presumably symbolizing Jadusable's imminent death.

Despite BEN's apparent escape to the internet via TheTruth.rtf, it appears the Father remained in the cartridge. Almost a full decade later, in Methods of Revolution [Ben.wmv], he is seen looming over the game area, watching the player.

Ben reveals in The Truth.wmv that The Father has spent the decade tormenting and controlling the actions of Ben and anyone else who attempted to intervene, having turned Jadusable into a new "vessel". The Father's power within the cartridge is also somewhat elaborated upon, per the spirits, he has "consumed and corrupted" all the other imprisoned souls besides them, and despite the fact the spirits were able to escape him by hiding within the game's code, The Father still had the power to totally destroy the in-game world, leaving only glitchy remnants. The spirits also say that even though they've been safe from The Father for years within the code, now that he knows where they are, it's no longer a safe-haven, indicating The Father is perfectly capable of reaching them despite his apparent blindspot.

Personality

Not much is known about Kelbris, but he is shown to be aggressive and murderous, as he is implied to be responsible for both Ifrit's and Rosa's ascensions, as well as the continued torture and subjugation of the ascended souls within the cartridge. The Eternity Project describes him as possessing a "propensity for wanton violence and uncontrolled aggression". This was apparently attributed, by some, to the rudimentary way he was ascended, though others believed it was caused by by the prolonged isolation he had to face before another cultist could be successfully ascended to join him.
