Major characters

Haunted Cartridge Arc

• Jadusable: the main protagonist of the Haunted Cartridge Arc and a college sophomore at the time of the Haunted Cartridge arc. He is the third known owner of the Majora cartridge. His findings were documented as text and videos, and were uploaded to 4chan and YouTube. He was killed shortly after his final contact with the outside world.
• BEN: an entity contained within the Majora's Mask cartridge. It was later revealed to be composed of several digitized souls, completely independent of Ben, a child who died eight years prior. It proved capable of manipulating electronic devices after having been given access to Jadusable's computer.
• Ben: a young, long-deceased former member of the Moon Children, killed on April 23, 2002 via drowning. His consciousness was sealed inside the Majora's Mask cartridge and was put in the vessel of the Elegy of Emptiness statue, which was allowed a small amount of freedom of movement after Jadusable initiated the Fourth Day glitch.
• Tyler: Jadusable's friend. He accompanied Jadusable to the old man's house after the first time he played the game. He was later revealed to be related to the Lawman family, whose deaths were detailed in the Newspaper Letter. He committed suicide after the 2018 societal collapse.
• Old Man: an old gentleman, the second known owner of the cartridge before he passed it to Jadusable at a garage sale. Immediately afterward, he moved away and was unable to be tracked due to having no known relatives. He is currently missing.
• The Father: a mysterious cult leader referenced frequently by the Moon Children in the following arc. He is represented in the cartridge by the Happy Mask Salesman. Revealed to be Kelbris during the Awakening Arc.

Moon Children Arc

• Ifrit: Matt Hubris, a member of the Moon Children, moderator of youshouldnthavedonethat.net. His identity was kept secret to the Moon Children, listed as Rodney R. on youshouldnthavedonethat.net, but his real name was revealed to the players when they began emailing him. He then disappeared. He was discovered to have been ascended and trapped within the haunted cartridge more than eight years later during the Awakening Arc.
• Duskworld23: Spencer L., a member of the Moon Children and moderator of the site. Little is known about him. His consciousness was eventually trapped in Wayward Horizon, confirming his fate as dead, which most likely occurred during the process of ascension.
• Nekko: Christopher, a young member of the Moon Children, and moderator of the site. On the second day of the First Cycle, he was subjected to the ascension ritual, killing him. His consciousness was trapped in Wayward Horizon.
• Insidiae: Kevin F., a mysterious member of the Moon Children and moderator of the site. Not much is known about him. Revealed to have ascended in The Happy Mask Salesman.wmv.
• DROWNED: a mysterious member of the Moon Children and sole administrator of the site. Nothing is known about him, as he appeared only once during the First Cycle.
• Alex: a former member of the Moon Children and main protagonist of the Moon Children Arc, introduced at the end of the First Cycle. He was foreshadowed during the Haunted Cartridge Arc and mentioned several times prior to his first video, in which he resets time and begins the Second Cycle. After being killed by Kelbris and revived by MFGreth, he disappeared. Revealed to have ascended in The Happy Mask Salesman.wmv. It is implied in The End.wmv that he was Jadusable's predecessor in protecting the world inside the cartridge.
• Rosa: Ifrit's sister, though it is unknown if she shares his last name. She was foreshadowed during the Haunted Cartridge Arc, and appeared in Ifrit's place during the Second Cycle. She remained imprisoned as Romani for almost a decade before she was freed from her cycle in The Prisoner.wmv.
• Rem: a member of the Moon Children, mentioned by Duskworld23 in his first news post. Revealed to have ascended in The Happy Mask Salesman.wmv.
• Kelbris: a long-deceased former member and prophet of the Moon Children, the first to undergo the process of ascension. Revealed to be The Father during the Awakening Arc.
• Ryukaki: Kayd Hendricks, a secondary protagonist called to action by mhftt.txt. As odd events started happening around him, he realized that he was being hunted down. He is currently missing.
• Guide: the original administrator of Within Hubris, and literal guide to the site. Nothing is known about him, though his avatar is the same as Insidiae's.

Awakening Arc

• Jadus: a survivor of an unnamed societal collapse that took place in 2018. His true identity is unknown.
• Denton: another survivor, Jadus's occupational partner.
• Baker: a friend of Jadus from before the collapse. His fate is unknown.
• Maerlie: a member of an unknown group who had a breakdown after an unknown event.
• Second Player: a host body containing the consciousness of hundreds of people involved in the "St. Louis Incident". Originally trapped in a hotel, he was killed by the hotel's jailer during his escape attempt.
• Abel: the mysterious voice that greets new residents of the hotel.
• The Jailer: a "man" in a gas mask that guards the hotel and kills anyone who attempts to escape.
• Sarah: the successor to the Second Player. Very little is known about her except that, according to Abel, she's "a bit of a gamer".
• Circle: one of the digitized souls who aids Sarah in the vessel of Tatl.
• Ryan: one of the digitized souls who aids Sarah in the vessel of Kaepora Gaebora. Unrelated to the minor character also named Ryan mentioned below.

Minor characters

• Neighbor: the neighbor of the Old Man. He tells Jadusable about the night Ben's "accident" happened, but refuses to say more when he's asked.
• David: a minor member of the Moon Children, mentioned on the About page and appearing in the guestbook. He briefly talks about the site being up and Alex's disappearance.
• Dark_Rider404: a minor member of the Moon Children appearing in the guestbook. He briefly talks about Alex's disappearance and offers to help Paradoxicle commit a school shooting.
• sidicus9: a minor member of the Moon Children appearing in the guestbook. They asks if Mr. D or Luna have spoken to anyone lately.
• Paradoxicle: a minor member of the Moon Children appearing in the guestbook. He talks about his desire to shoot up his school until he's killed.
• 13fliptime: a minor member of the Moon Children appearing in the guestbook. They tell Paradoxicle and Dark_Rider404 to go through with the shooting.
• CB: a minor member of the Moon Children appearing in the guestbook. They talk about almost losing their mask.
• BoogeymanHere: a minor member of the Moon Children appearing in the guestbook. They talk about feeling a spiritual surge and thinking that their ascension is coming up soon.
• Sable: a minor member of the Moon Children appearing in the guestbook. They tell Ifrit that something is wrong with the Contact page.
• Ryan: a minor member of the Moon Children, mentioned on the About page.
• Jeff: a minor member of the Moon Children, mentioned on the About page.
• Danielle: a minor member of the Moon Children, mentioned on the About page.
• Quia: Ryukaki's girlfriend, with whom players communicated briefly via IRC.
• Thomas: Ryukaki's friend, with whom he speaks during theconnection.wmv.
• ???: a name used to censor the identities of two people in Wayward Horizon. Whether it is a person or not is unknown.
• Usekeb: a mysterious Tenor account found on Within Hubris just days before the hiatus began.
• Alexi: one of the digitized souls who previously fought and lost to Jadusable.
• Zedregex: one of the digitized souls who previously fought and lost to Jadusable.
• Tiki: a digitized soul in the vessel of Mayor Dotour, who asks Sarah to make an urgent decision.
• Fayt: a digitized soul in the vessel of Mutoh. They argue for letting the Moon fall and have the world reset.
• Noko: a digitized soul in the vessel of Captain Viscen. They argue that the world has been too corrupted to expect a reset to fix it.
• Sen: a digitized soul in the vessel of the Fisherman. They argue for letting the Moon fall and have the world reset.
• GoeTeeks: a digitized soul in the vessel of the Part-Timer. They argue for needing more time to find missing souls and figure out the predicament they are in.
• Vivi Ven: a digitized soul in the vessel of a Gerudo from Ocarina of Time. They argue for sending Sarah to the Astral Observatory.
• Ponk Kastle: a digitized soul in the vessel of the Professor. They argue that the souls are out of options if they want to wait for the remaining souls.
• Shylenced: a digitized soul who "went out for help" and has not returned.
• Neryssa: a digitized soul in the vessel of Madame Aroma. They argue that the souls "could get stuck forever" if the world breaks.
• The Space Child: a digitized soul in the vessel of Judo. They say they are tired of the arguments.
• nfreak141: a digitized soul in the vessel of a Soldier. They ponder if it would really be so bad if the souls were to be erased.
• Moonlit Plague: a digitized soul in the vessel of a Soldier. They ask if it's not too late for them to "move on".
• Doctor C.: a digitized soul in the vessel of a Stalchild. They say that all the souls "stopped being real a long time ago" and no one will care what will happen to them.
