Ryan is a resident of World άλφα within the Majora's Mask cartridge. His vessel within the game is Kaepora Gaebora, who is able to lead Sarah to the Lone Peak Shrine in Goron Village where she acquires the Lens of Truth.

History

Prior to 2020

At an unknown point in time before Sarah entered World άλφα from the hotel, Ryan ascended and his consciousness was placed within Kaepora Gaebora, whose memories may have faded over time.

Awakening Arc

After Sarah's arrival in Goron Village in The Dying World.wmv, she approached Kaepora Gaebora in the appropriate area. However, she was greeted with the words of another inhabitant of the cartridge: "Hoo-Hoot! We meet again! Or rather, for the first time, perhaps? It's admirable you seek to change the fate if this world, but as you can see there are things beyond our control. If you continue, you will face many trials, the most important of which will be fought without a sword. This land will become the fate of all of Termina, soon. It will become a land where no living thing can survive. But if that courage and determination burns bright within you, then that's another story... So will you proceed?"

After Sarah selected "Yes", he continued, "Hoo-Hoot! You are a curious girl of many strengths! Perhaps you do have enough strength to change the fate of this world after all. I shall take to the air now, flying toward that shrine across the way, so follow behind me. Do not be daunted by appearances. Instead, let your feelings guide you, and the true path shall open before you. Are you ready? Follow behind me! I shall show you the path to gaining the strength you once possessed!" The owl, whose name was revealed by colored text as Ryan, then led her across the abyss toward the shrine.

Upon their arrival, Ryan continued, "Hoo-Hoot! As I have done before, I will grant you additional insight. There are those who can walk between worlds. You have already encountered several. Some are in hiding, some want to be found, some cannot speak for themselves. Enter the shrine. Proceed as you would normally. Despite falling apart, some of the original world's logic still applies." He then flew away, leaving Sarah to enter the shrine.

During her fight with Goht, Ryan and Rosa spectated from afar. After the fight takes a wrong turn, he stated that, "He's lured them into a trap," referring to the Goht child.

During Sarah's fight with Gyorg in The Predecessor.wmv, he and Rosa again spectated from afar. Watching Sarah fail to either win the fight or die, Ryan asked Rosa, "Can you pull an item through the ether again? Like you did with the pendant?" She responded, "I can't... It's not letting me. I know what item can help... but I can't reach it." As the screen faded to black, he paused before asking, "What do you mean?" Rosa then responded, "It's like someone else is using it..."

After Sarah was sent flying toward the entrance of the boss arena, Ryan shouted, "Now's your chance! RUN!" Sarah then exited, completely disappearing from Rosa's and Ryan's view. Rosa asked, "Wait... where did she go?" Ryan responded, "I have no idea. The world is becoming more and more unstable. Who knows where she could have ended up?"

As Sarah entered the Chamber of the Sages to fight Jadusable in The Showdown.wmv, Ryan's final words to her were, "SARAH... It's HIM. FIGHT SARAH!! FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE!"

Personality

Ryan, taking the form of Kaepora Gaebora, retains the owl's lighthearted demeanor (and still hoots). The extent to which this reflects his actual personality is unknown. However, his appearances following The Dying World.wmv show him speaking in a much more serious tone, even shouting toward Sarah in their final moments of contact.

Notes

• Ryan is an in-game personification of Ryan Geever. The role of Kaepora Gaebora was specifically chosen for him due to his work on "Ben Drowned Explained", a series of videos describing the story of Ben Drowned in great detail, comparable to the in-game explanations given by Kaepora Gaebora.
• Ryan shares his name with a minor member of the Moon Children, seen only in a special thanks section on the About page of youshouldnthavedonethat.net.
• While Ryan first appeared properly in The Dying World.wmv, Kaepora's first appearance, albeit very brief, was in DROWNED.wmv.
